NMIB Madame Alexander Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Alice Liddell 10 Doll #69940. This elegant doll is brand new from smoke-free store inventory and mint in original box. Featured photos are of actual doll for sale.
Alice Pleasance Liddell was the inspiration for the classic fairy tale, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Lewis Carroll first told the story of Alice's adventures to the three Liddell sisters at a river picnic. Upon Alice's plea, he wrote it down for her also including his own hand drawn illustrations. Thus, in 1864, the original version of the story was complete, entitled Alice's Adventures Under Ground. Bustles and elaborate drapery characterize dresses of the early 1870's.
Alice is wearing a fashionable dress with trimmed, draped overskirts supported by a bustle and a petticoat. Her jacket has a short-waisted, fitted bodice that flares over the hips and is trimmed with ribbon bow in the front. Alice's hair is in a day style of loose curls pulled up into a loose chignon at the top of her head. She also wears bangs which were considered very fashionable. She is carrying a first edition of the book she helped inspire.
