COMPOSITION PORTRAIT DOLL by Madame Alexander. This is a 21 all composition doll in all original costuming. Rare find in the original outfit and still in very nice condition.
The tosca mohair wig on this girl is very elaborate with a twisted braid and french roll and is beautiful. Still in the original style without hair loss. She has amber brown sleep eyes, her exotic hand painted eye details are original & still vibrant with tones of neutral & green. Clear sleep eyes have full lashes. She has some eyelid paint loss which comes from the opening and closing of the eyes. She has some overall very faint crazing to her face, legs, and arms (visible in photos when enlarged). Stringing is a little loose but will leave to new owner. A few paint rubs at neck where head rests due to head movement over time. There are no big craze lines anywhere. Doll itself is unmarked (they all were). Generally the tag was sewn into the undergarment of these girls and hers is present. It reads, Madame Alexander New York U. The outfit is really beautiful and is in wonderful shape. Lavender rayon brocade fabric gown with purple velvet sash. Most of these composition portrait dolls came with a zipper closure in back. This gown has a three square snap closure. The gown has a wonderful fashionably elaborate look and feel right down to the padded bosom detailing inside the bodice. Two posies are attached to the drape of the velvet sash and she carries her original nosegay in her hand.Some of the flowers on the bouquets are stunning vintage replacements since after 70 years the original posies were a bit thin and needed to be restored but all of the original components are still present. She wears her original elbow-length yellow gauntlets. Very small pen mark on left inside gauntlet.
The earrings are original and the cellophane star on the left earring has dissolved from behind the turquoise earstud. It appears that it may have dissolved partly on her left cheek and on ear area where there are small shiny spots.The turquoise beads that drape her gown and accent her bracelet match her earrings. All original marcasite bead bracelet and original glued-on diamond ring. Highly detailed perfection that Madame Alexander was so well known for. I find no holes, rips, or seam issues on the underclothing.
The original yellow petticoat and pantalets are without holes and damage and are nice and bright in color. Excellent original yellow shoes tie with lavender ribbon ties and matching lavender ribbon with cellophane floral accents adorn the uppers. One cellophane accent has a single tiny petal missing.The doll has no odors. Out of my personal collection.
