RARE MADAME ALEXANDER "LITTLE COLONEL" DOLL! (but that doll is in need of much more repair than this doll). A "PRECIOUS PRINCESS" OF A DOLL!

DRESSED IN "LITTLE COLONEL" STYLE RUFFLED VINTAGE TAFFETA GOWN closely resembling a Shirley Temple outfit. WHO IS THIS LOVELY LADY???

COULD SHE BE A MADAME ALEXANDER "LITTLE COLONEL"---YES! OR A RARE "MARCELLA" DOLL???

VINTAGE AQUA TAFFETA RUFFLED SKIRT with PEACH VELVET RUFFLE TRIM---MATCHING FITTED PEACH VELVET COAT with lace trimmed sleeves. Matching PEACH VELVET WIDE BRIM HAT with unique WIDE VELVET BOW.

(this dress is actually aqua not baby blue) Her dress does have a VERY FEW TINY "AGE SPOTS" that I can send up close photos of if you request them---difficult to photograph---at the very back near bottom ruffle hemline, and one in the fold of lower ruffle in front, with a TINY PINHOLE. She wears ORIGINAL 1930s style IVORY OILCLOTH TIE SHOES with RECTANGULAR METAL DECORATIVE "BUCKLE" securing oilcloth bow to shoes. VINTAGE AQUA TAFFETA PANTALOONS matching dress---with lace trim---are SEWN INTO DRESS AT WAISTLINE. NEW GOLD SATIN RIBBON TRIMMED TULLE CRINOLINE for "extra skirt strut".

HER FACE HAS GENERALIZED MINOR CRAZING with one crack beginning over left eye---SHE HAS ORIGINAL FACE COLOR---VERY SIMILAR TO PRINCESS ELIZABETH FACE COLORING: CORAL LIPS, OPEN MOUTH WITH 4 ORIGINAL TEETH, PINK CHEEKS, EYESHADOW above eyes, BOLD ONE STROKE HAND PAINTED BROWS, DELICATE UNDER EYE LASHES. Her EYES ARE CRYSTAL CLEAR SLEEP EYES with WHITE "WHITES" OF EYES, with ORIGINAL FULL BRUSH HORSEHAIR LASHES. She reminds me of a PRINCESS ELIZABETH COMPOSITION DOLL I once had.

She may be a Madame Alexander "LITTLE COLONEL" DOLL---if so, SHE IS A RARE BEAUTY! Madame Alexander made this SHIRLEY TEMPLE LOOK-ALIKE DOLL in 1935 and dressed her to resemble "LITTLE COLONEL" in the movie of the same name. THIS DOLL'S FACE, in this listing, CLOSELY RESEMBLES A 1937 PRINCESS ELIZABETH DOLL with the open mouth and four tiny teeth.

OR SHE COULD BE A "MISS CHARMING" DOLL---MADE BY EUGENE GOLDBERGER---a smaller version of the 27 INCH "MISS CHARMING" DOLL standing behind her in the white organdy dress--these dolls were UNMARKED. But to me, her face more closely resembles the Madame Alexander Princess Elizabeth Doll. I know she is not a Shirley Temple Doll because she has an UNMARKED BACK.

The dolls pictured behind her are a 27" MISS CHARMING DOLL by Goldberger and a 20" SHIRLEY TEMPLE DOLL BY IDEAL DOLL COMPANY. They are photographed with her for ease of comparison. I have the FRAMED PHOTOGRAPH OF PRINCESS ELIZABETH DOLL by Madame Alexander in front of "LITTLE COLONEL" LADY---THESE FACES LOOK SO MUCH LIKE HERS! My BEST GUESS is that this is a MADAME ALEXANDER "LITTLE COLONEL" DOLL with a PRINCESS ELIZABETH FACE.

WHOEVER SHE IS---SHE IS A RARE BEAUTY! If you love unique dolls---this Little Lady should be yours! I have used SIX REFERENCE BOOKS studying photos & reading details---I can provide the titles and page numbers I found most useful. No photographs resemble this doll. THE CLOSEST PHOTOS ARE OF MADAME ALEXANDER "KATE GREENAWAY" DOLLS on pages 28 & 29 of the signed by author copy book TREASURY OF MME. ALEXANDER DOLLS by Jan Foulke. IF THIS DOLL IS A RARE LITTLE COLONEL MME ALEXANDER DOLL, HER VALUE IS MUCH HIGHER THAN HER LIST PRICE.

I have priced her similar to a Princess Elizabeth of the same size and era. THIS BEAUTY HAS BEEN IN STORAGE in my SMOKE FREE, PET FREE DOLL ROOM protected from sunlight & temperature extremes.

THANK YOU FOR VISITING WITH LITTLE LADY & ME---IT HAS BEEN OUR PLEASURE! PERHAPS YOU ARE THE VINTAGE DOLL COLLECTOR SHE HAS WAITED PATIENTLY OVER 75 YEARS TO BELONG TO! SHE IS A UNIQUE ONE-OF-A-KIND 20 COMPOSITION BEAUTY! READY TO LOVE & BE LOVED!
